Why not learn a new skill for 2020? Weave the colours of a season at Thames-Side Studios.

Weave the colours of a season on this two day tapestry workshop. You will learn basic weaving skills, how to blend colours and weave simple shapes to create your very own unique tapestry to take home with you, this course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

Please bring your own artwork or drawings as inspiration if you would like to, but it is not essential. A selection of wool and cotton yarn will be provided but if you would like to experiment with weaving and bring your own materials. i.e plastic, paper, fabric, raffia or anything!

Information sheets about weaving techniques are supplied, as well as a list of stockists for materials and equipment. You will be weaving using the traditional gobelin technique of tapestry on a fixed scaffolding frame, your warp will be prepared and ready for you to get weaving.

We have dozens of yarns in beautiful colours for you to choose from. This workshop will take place in the Education Space at Thames-Side Studios with beautiful views overlooking the River. Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided.

Justine Randall is an artist and tapestry weaver, she creates large abstract wall hangings concerning light, colour and the environment. She studied Tapestry at the Royal College of Arts and Textiles at West Surrey College of Art and Design. Justine has exhibited her work in Paris, Germany and Copenhagen. In 2019 she exhibited her work at OneRoom Gallery in Shoreditch. Her Wiltshire Landscape Tapestries were shortlisted for the Cordis Prize for Tapestry in 2016. Her work is held in both private and public collections.
